Myriam de Dupont

"I was born in the capital on March 8, 1965," says Myriam de Dupont. "I am a self-taught artist. It was my husband who first ventured into this artistic world in 1992." He crafted a line of window frames and floor coverings in wood.

"I'd go into his workshop and it was exciting to see the fascinating forms in pieces of scrap wood," she confides. "I was determined to use my own ideas in designs that take advantage of the wood, and today I feel proud of the imaginative and useful pieces I create. I began in 2004. It's wonderful to work with him in the world of woodworking.

"I'd describe my work as a way of bringing a bit of nature to every corner of our homes. Wood and bamboo form combinations that are quite charming and fresh. It is a desire for innovation that motivates me, and knowing that people like my work. Sometimes I have to get up before dawn to sketch a surprising new design that just won't wait until later. "The greatest challenge I have faced was being able to stand beside my husband during a long illness. I am so grateful to God that we came through this. Incredibly, he is well now."
