Solange and Lena Fonseca

"Our interest in colors, paintbrushes and paints comes from childhood. However, my sister Lena has always been the more creative of the two, and she has been the driving force behind our work together as artists. She has always admired our family's artwork, and she's constantly observing and learning. I suppose this is what fine-tuned her artistic sensibility.

"In my case, I have always lived art in a more instinctive way. Mixing colors, transcribing ideas through the language of art, externalizing our souls, all of this has allowed us to grow in such a way that we are now in a position to express our own personal artistic style. Paints and brushes are the tools we use to externalize our souls. We admire the power that art has to surprise and enchant us.

"My artistic formation began when I was an adolescent and my parents financed the several art courses I took at Rio de Janeiro's Modern Art Museum. When I was old enough I enrolled in Fine Arts at university. However, I began to worry about the possibility of making a living as an artist, so I decided to transfer and study Communications. I worked in marketing, and then as a journalist.

"My sister Lena on the other hand, studied Education, specializing in the teaching of art to children. Always a good observer, she understands art as the manifestation of one's inner feelings expressed in a variety of forms, color and materials. She is methodical, organized and practical. She is an excellent person to work with, and she administers very well our work together.

"We wish to always learn through art and explore all creative possibilities. We want to see our pieces occupying several spaces without hurting nature. In our concern for the ecology, we work with recycled paper and soon we'll be working with reforestation woods.

"Being associated with Novica offers us a greater possibility of reaching our goals. It also gives more credibility to our products to have people around the world develop an interest for what we do. We want to take advantage of everything new that art has to offer."
