Ketut Kartika

The artistry of I Ketut Kartika has been featured in Depth magazine.

His name is Ketut Kartika, however his friends and relatives known him better as Seririt, after the name of the village where he was born. Just like any other person who lived in a small village, Kartika and family have lived through hard times. Kartika used to help his mother collect firewood from a nearby forest and sell it for a living. Kartika's mother, Nyoman Nici, is a hard working woman, for she has had to take care of her five children on her own.

Thanks to his mother's hard work, Ketut Kartika was able to graduate from senior high school. He soon worked at a company producing products made of coconut wood, and after 11 years of work he decided to give up his career as production manager, and became an independent producer, always in the crafting of coconut wood wares.

"It is such a joy to now own my own shop, although it is a lot of work and responsibility," the artist says.
