By the time he graduated, Asante had become the real artist he always knew he was.
George Asante was born in 1963 in a suburb of Accra. In 1982 – just one year after leaving high school – he sojourned in the Republic of Nigeria for some four years, coming back to Ghana in 1986 to invest a little capital he had accumulated while there.

After a while, convinced that better fortunes awaited him in life ahead, he turned to wood and the talent of carvers in the Akuapim hills. In 1990 he settled there to begin training as a carver.
