Serenely lovely, a young woman glazes demurely from lowered lashes in a bridal portrait. Wearing an elaborate headdress, she reveals traditional Balinese attire and values. Sukaenah sculpts the beautiful image from bronze and bathes it in sterling silver. The base is adorned with a lotus blossom.

"Working with bronze in a historical context has challenged me to learn more about history and culture, which I greatly enjoy."
Sukaenah was born on July 4, 1978. As a child, she loved to climb a big tree in her garden. From there she could jump onto the roof of her family's house. Her favorite rooftop spot was nicely shaded, and it soon became her personal hideout where she would go to read or study.
