Eugenio Balcazar takes his inspiration from the Chimu culture, which flourished in northern Peru from 1400 to 1700 AD. Known for their distinctive pottery, the Chimu developed Peru's largest and most important political system until the rise of the Inca. Balcazar depicts a Chimu man and woman as colorful ceramic masks adorned with natural jute.

Eugenio Balcazar Chávez was born September 29, 1999. As an artisan, he is essentially self taught. But his wife is also an artisan and, together, they sought to develop their own designs and style. She works in arpillería, or embroidered patchwork appliqué, while he works in ceramic.
