Monika Mayer

"Design is my passion and my profession. I come form a family dedicated to graphic impressions, and I studied Visual Communication in 1989. I've been working as a design editor since then. I always felt the need to do something that did not involve a computer, something that I could touch and feel. I needed to make a piece acquire shape. That's how I decided to develop another form of work parallel to my job, where I work with rustic iron, Brazilian gems, and candlelight.

"I transform pieces of scrap metal into interesting pieces that people might want to play with. Nothing is fixed, everything can be transformed through art. It's just a question of having some imagination.

"Once I was asked where my inspiration comes from. I replied that it comes from the nature, the sea, the sunsets and the mountains of my country which have always fascinated me with their colors and shapes. They also have within vibrating energies of their own nature which they transmit and harmonize.

"I feel very happy to share these energies with you through my work."
