Pilar Herrero

"I was born in Buenos Aires on 8 April, 1975 – in the clinic's elevator. I spent most of my childhood in Buenos Aires, which I really loved because it is a city brimming with artistic life, especially theater. I was very lucky that my mother greatly loved art, and made sure that I was in touch with that world.

"As a child I participated in theater productions along with other kids, and I was also painting. I had to distance myself from art during my college years, when I was studying agronomy and communication.

"During that time I went to Spain, and there in the Old World I came to realize I just had to get back into the world of art. I started to learn on my own about painting techniques on canvas, and then on handicrafts as part of the same artistic line.

"I arrived in Brazil some years ago and merely by chance, I had always wanted to come and visit. I live in the middle of the forest near waterfalls and rivers. I work with recycled materials out of respect for the environment. My house is my studio, and those natural surroundings are my inspiration."
