Vatcharee Sritrakul

"My name is Vatcharee Sritrakul. I was born on August 13, 1957. I am an only child. My parents were a housewife and a government official. My husband is from Bangkok but he now lives with me in the provinces, where he works in a financial company. We are without children.

"I work mostly with wood and rattan, but also with terracotta, ceramic and all sorts of materials which I transform into functional and decorative products. Old craftsmen passed their knowledge down to me and taught me their wonderful craft. Now I try to express my taste, my thoughts and my ideas through my art. My decorative items are very different to those found elsewhere, some are modern and some traditional; some of my own fashion, some inspired from ancient Lanna styles from northern Thailand. For some pieces I adapt my designs to follow the latest styles and fulfill the needs of my customers.

"I have my own workshop where I regularly show techniques and designs to my workers. I love Thai handicraft so much that I really put all my heart into my artistic work, and I am very proud to show the results to my customers. I have never exhibited my crafts before and I feel Novica is such an incredible way to show our handicrafts to millions of people. I would like unique Thai arts to be admired and recognized by foreign countries. In the future, I will keep on improving my quality and designs which I will hopefully sell abroad. I trust that Novica will help me to achieve this important goal."
