Gloria Armestar de Crovetto was born in Lima on January 9, 1947. "I always liked architecture, and this instinctively led me to choose design as my career," she says. She studied at the prestigious Universidad Católica del Perú, and continues to practice her chosen field today.
"I married in 1975, and my husband had to go to Italy. We moved to Rome and I continued my studies. I worked in several places there as a designer before returning to Peru, where I opened my own workshop in 1994. My greatest challenge was arriving in Peru again with nothing, after 20 years away, and beginning to craft my first pieces - with my daughter's encouragement.
"I design everything myself, and I'm just thrilled that my husband has also learned to help me with my designs and perfect them. I share my own tastes and preferences in my work, and try to reach out to all kinds of people. My desire is to reach everyone. I create every piece with great illusions and affection.
"Our art is my life. If I had to leave it, I'd feel as though my very soul had been ripped out of me."
