The Balinese are renowned for their beautiful baskets, which have become an essential part of everyday living, as well as in religious life. Baskets are used from drying rice in the sun, to transporting live chickens to the market. In religious ceremonies, freshly woven baskets are used because they are regarded to be sukla, meaning "new."
