"Hi friends, I am Nihal Qureshi and I was born in 1969. My father was in the field of tooled leather and since I am the eldest in the family, he expected me to carry on the family workshop. He wanted me to learn and understand all there is to know about working with leather, but I never took any interest in it.
"Instead, what has always fascinated me is carpet weaving. Everyday, after school, I would watch weavers at work creating beautiful and colorful carpets. I remember being amazed at how such beautiful pieces could be crafted by hand, without using machines. I eventually I got into this art and decided to start my own workshop. To learn an art form, you must care about it and love it. This is how I got into the weaving arts.
"Each piece has an emotional connection, and a lot of hard work goes into it. Sometimes, depending on the design, a single piece can take up to six months to finish. It is like nurturing a baby. It might be surprising for a person to know that the higher the number of knots in a carpet, the more intricate it becomes to make, and the designs are more vivid. That's the beauty of a carpet.
"My growing love for the art field has motivated me to delve further in Indian traditional textiles arts, so now I also make
zari cushions, bedspreads, curtains and many more.
"I have gained valuable experience after so many years in this field. I understand customer's preferences in terms of colors, styles, and motifs.
"I am now able to offer work to people from my community, so I host expert artisans at my workshop. My main interest is to promote our art around the world and offer the best quality products.
"I would like to tell the customers of Novica to feel the depth of art, and the dedication and devotion of an Artist."
