"Hi, my name is Giulian Limón. My father sold leather and I remember when I was a boy we'd take our products to the tanneries. So I've been around leather since I was very young. When I was 21, I decided to start my own tanning business. I was always thinking of ways to improve the process, with the idea of eventually crafting leather products of my own. When Mexico began to open its borders to free trade, I realized that it was time to reach that goal.
"The process begins with selecting the skins, which we tan, tint and
tamborea. This consists of placing the skin inside huge barrels that have beaters inside. These turn and turn for a long time, until the leather achieves the desired texture and softness. Then we give each piece the final texture, shine and color with special dyes.
"Once tanned, the leather is selected. The pieces are cut out and the edges graded so they can be joined neatly. The lining is also cut out and assembled. We place a layer of regenerated leather between the exterior and the lining to strengthen and reinforce the shape while maintaining flexibility. The pieces are stitched together and the details and decorations applied by hand. We use 100% Mexican tools and materials.
