"My name is Nantana Suwanwet and my nickname is Na. I was born on October 14, 1971 in Ayutthaya, an ancient capital of Siam that prospered remarkably through trading, arts, and culture. I started working very young so I could assist my parents in supporting my two younger sisters' studies. Some of my relatives were running an import-export company in another city, so I moved there to work with them in 1994.
"Three years later a friend and I decided to set up our own business. But we had financial problems and eventually had to close it. I then decided to venture into decoration and handicrafts. I work closely with several artisans, who have generously taught me their crafts. So I can say I am an artisan with versatile skills. I am specialized in gift sets.
"Although I have been crafting all sorts of gift sets, aromatherapy and nature are my favorite themes. I generally design the products and work along with my artisan friends to give them form. Sometimes they are too busy, and I make everything myself. While they are working I concentrate on making the boxes and, once ready, I put everything together and add the last magical packaging touch. I have been doing this since 1999.
"I love designing and making handcrafted items. It is a free working style and everything depends on my own imagination and myself. My designs mainly consist of a subtle blend of traditional artistry, contemporary trends, and my own ideas. Many people have told me they love my products because of their characteristics, quality, beauty, and utility.
"I work by myself and am quite happy as I am. My business is growing slowly and nicely. Although I want to keep on growing, all I need is enough to earn a living and to be able to offer work to my friends. Pleasing people and being responsible have become what matters most. At the beginning of each year, my goals and concerns are the same – crafting quality utilitarian products that reflect the beauty of Thailand, while constantly providing local people with work.
"I love Novica's mission. Many artisans talk about Novica here, and everyone told me it would be a chance to present my products to the world. At present I am studying Thai herbs with the purpose of developing and adapting their scents and virtues into my products, for the benefit of people living in other countries. Hopefully this will introduce Thailand to the rest of the world through a great medium – quality, beautiful home décor and accessories, and sweet, healthy, pleasant fragrances."
