Viney Jain

"Hello, I am Viney Jain and I was born in the Kairana district of Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh is a multi-faceted state as far as handicrafts are concerned. While the enchanting Vanarasi silk originated in this state, it also produces a huge part of India's floor coverings. Our family worked in carpets and rugs and, being brought up in such an environment, I was inclined to this art and followed suit, even though I did my master's degree in chemistry.

"I was always very creative and always looking for something innovative in life. I think this urge in me made my decision to join my family in their work an easier one. Carpet crafting in India owes its origin to the Mughal era. Hence there are lot of designs in the Mughal style available in India.

"However our style of carpets and tufted rugs consists of modern designs that have been appreciated the world over. We have several expert artisans who assist us and we all work together. I would say a lot of creativity goes into our work since it's not a mere copy of ancient design. Besides, we really have to coordinate the colors and motifs according to current trends. It's a great challenge, however, and it feels great to be always looking out for something new.

"We have exhibited our exclusive carpets in Germany and Dubai. I am pleased to be associated with Novica as it is a great way to exhibit the talents of the world. I really wish to reach many art lovers around the globe and thereby keep traditional art alive. I also train young talents in my workshop and, in future, would definitely love to open an art studio on the premises to give young talent an opportunity to learn and exhibit their work."
