Kudhinda Fabrics was founded in 1989 by Zimbabwean Ros Byrne. Byrne's initial aim was to teach young people graduating into a bleak job market to use their talent for color and design to create beautiful fabrics. She started by training one young woman to print fabric using potato stamps, made by cutting patterns into flat slabs of potato. Today, there are eighty-five people working at Kudhinda Fabrics, most of them women who are highly skilled and creative artists.
