Takako was born in Kobe, Japan, a cosmopolitan city and seaport in the island of Hoshu. Growing up in Kobe, Takako recalls listening to punk music and haiku poetry.
In 1995 Takako moved to Bali, lured by the quietness and cultural intensity of the island. Now she has literally become Balinese, she is married to a Balinese man, and speaks Bahasa Indonesia perfectly.
"I love it where I live in Bali because it is a beautiful town with a spiritual atmosphere. And, I also love Kobe, where I am from," Takako tells us. "My designs incorporate traditional patterns from Japan and Indonesia, under modern stylizations. Design and creativity have always been part of my life, and I really don't know any other way of living!"
